LEWISTOWN - On a beautiful night for football in a beautiful setting at Mifflin County High School's Kish Bank Field at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium, the first half provided all the offense Friday night.
The North squad opened the scoring near the first quarter's midway point when Glendale’s Logan Skebeck scored on a 1-yard run following an 8-play 48-yard drive. Skebeck went on to rush for 33 yards on seven carries.
In the final seconds of the opening stanza, the South found the end zone for the only time in the game when Hollidaysburg’s Cole DeLattre threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tyrone’s Eli Woomer, capping off a 9-play 85-yard drive.
DeLattre completed 7-of-11 passes for 123 yards, while Woomer, who won offensive MVP for the South, caught three passes for 44 yards.
On the ensuing drive, the North marched 57 yards, scoring on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Curwensville’s Dante Lezzer to State College’s Daimear Coad.
Because of the game rules, the North elected to kick a 33-yard extra point, giving them two points on the conversion and extending their lead to 16-6 at the 8:34 mark of the first half.
A significant portion of that offense was Clearfield's, Colton Ryan. Though he didn't find the end zone, he was a key contributor to both offensive drives as he rushed for a game-high 70 yards on 14 carries, while also catching three passes for 40 yards.
He earned the North Squad’s MVP honors for his efforts.
"This means a lot to me, and I'm actually not playing college football," Ryan said. "I might try to walk on, but for this to be my last high school football game, and to come out with the win, it means a lot to me. We thought we would come out here and score every drive, to be honest. But hey, a win is a win. That's what I told my team, as long as we won the game."
"In the first half, we came out strong and did exactly what we needed to. We had both the run and passing games going, and it was great. Didn't expect to come out here with an MVP and be honest with you, but I'm very grateful for it," concluded Ryan.
In the second half, following an interception by Bellwood-Antis' Colin Gibbons, the South had a chance to make it a one-score game, but Kaiden Snare misfired on a 48-yard field goal attempt with 10:13 remaining in the contest.
The North then went on a 16-play 79-yard drive ending the game at the 1-yard line.
